Star wars day: May the 4th be with you
Welcome back to the Big Screen Focus. Happy May 4th! also known as Star Wars day.
In a world far, far, away in the year 1977, George Lucas created Star Wars, which would end up being one of the most popular, well known movie of all time, which would lead up to a whole franchise. "It featured an overarching conflict between an empire and a group of rebels, between two orders, one good and another evil — the Sith and Jedi — and a power called the Force, which permeated everything and everyone but could be harnessed as a weapon only by certain, Force-specific individuals, for both noble and nefarious purposes" (Rawat, 2021). George Lucas wanted to create a space film. he had the idea back in 1971, creating a science fiction dystopia, however he felt as it was not so successful. He then had the idea of Star Wars which became a great hit. Lucas told Chicago Tribune in 2005, “It was really about the Vietnam War, and that was the period where Nixon was trying to run for a [second] term, which got me to thinking historically about how do democracies get turned into dictatorships? Because the democracies aren’t overthrown; they’re given away."(Rawat, 2021) which then got him thinking about star wars. he created a whole universe and characters. it is amazing how one could do so.
